What are Spirit Batts? They are blends designed to show the spirit of the fiber. I blend various fibers of one or more of the following: Alpaca, Llama, Silk, Nylon, Mohair, Mylar, Firestar, Viscose, Tencel and Wool (some from my own flock). I usually start with a natural colored wool and then add accent fibers like Firestar and or silk onto my drum carder and a Spirit Batt is born. I cannot recreate them exactly, as I do not weigh out anything, but I usually make two to three out of the same colors. These batts weigh around two ounces more or less, usually more. I find that if there is a lot of fine wool and luxury fibers the carder doesn’t hold as much as if it’s mohair and wool as the main blend. I’ve been making the Spirit Batts for a couple of years now and sell them in my fiber shop and at spinning events and gatherings. |
